"2026 was our best year ever for Westmont Cruisin' Nights," Westmont Special Events Corporation Executive Director Kristina Kaniauskaite said after wrapping the summer season. If you live near downtown, you already knew Thursday nights on Cass Avenue got busier this year. What you might not know is that the record-breaking car show season was only the opening act. Downtown Westmont doesn't quiet down once the classic cars stop rolling in for the summer. It just swaps engines for easels, then swaps easels for Halloween.
If you've been assuming the fall calendar here is thin, this is the post that corrects that.
The Summer That Wouldn't Quit
Every Thursday from June through August, three blocks of Cass Avenue between Burlington Avenue and Naperville Road closed to make room for classic cars, hot rods, and a crowd that grew all season. The event has been named the top weekly summer car show in the Chicagoland area by WGN-Radio, and 2026 lived up to that reputation. WSEC reported the season averaged more than 400 cars each week, with three individual nights topping 500 vehicles. That's up from the roughly 400-car, 2,500-guest average WSEC posted for the 2025 season, which means this wasn't just a repeat performance. It was growth.
Live music ran at two stages each week, with one planted right outside NEAT Kitchen + Bar at 246 N. Cass, meaning the restaurant's patio doubled as a front-row seat for bands like the Westmont Blues Band and Emma & the Dilemma over the course of the summer. If you skipped it because you assumed it was the same show every week, the themed nights (GM and Convertibles, Village Vehicles, Custom Cars and Paint Jobs) tell a different story. WSEC treats it as a series, not a rerun.
Vision & Vibe Fest Returns September 12 and 13
Here's the part of the calendar most residents haven't clocked yet. The second annual Vision & Vibe Fest lands this coming weekend, Saturday and Sunday, September 12 and 13, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Westmont Park District's Park Place facility, 141 S. Linden Avenue, on the south side of Veterans Memorial Park near Linden and Dallas.
This isn't a scaled-down cousin of Cruisin' Nights. Project manager Jenny Babyar said organizers are "so excited to bring all of this art and talent to the community" for this year's expanded lineup, which grew from more than 20 visual artists in its debut year to more than 30 this September. The performance schedule reads less like a community open-mic and more like a booked festival:

Layer in Uncle Jon's Music Uke Circle, Expressions Dance Studio, Dynamic Perception Dance Company, and Diva Dance, plus a kids' art table, face painting, and a community art project on the Park Place patio, and you've got a weekend built for both a Saturday date and a Sunday with the kids. Bring your own chair or blanket for the outdoor stage. If the weather turns, the whole event shifts indoors to the Park District Community Center at 75 E. Richmond Street.
Last year's community art project turned into a genuine local artifact: more than 60 residents each painted a small canvas, and organizers assembled the pieces into three large collages that were unveiled at the Village Board meeting this past January. Whatever gets painted at Park Place this weekend has a decent shot at hanging somewhere in town come next spring.
Then October Takes Over
Once the festival tents come down, Cass Avenue doesn't go dormant. It heads straight into Wicked West Fest, the Village's month-long run of fall and Halloween programming that has become as much a fixture of the downtown calendar as the summer car shows. In recent years the format has followed a consistent shape: a community scarecrow decorating contest with entries displayed along Cass Avenue, a window mural program where local artists paint storefronts for fall, and a single blowout Saturday built around a costume contest, a pumpkin smashing extravaganza staged from a fire department bucket truck, the Caskets on Cass footrace of homemade caskets, and an evening haunted forest tour at Diane Main Park with a gentler matinee slot for younger kids. Westmont Special Events has also run a 21-and-over Zombie Pub Crawl through downtown bars as part of the same stretch.
The exact 2026 dates for these events typically post to the Village and Chamber calendars in the second half of September, so if Halloween is a household tradition for you, that's the week to start checking westmont.illinois.gov and the Westmont Chamber's site for sign-up deadlines. The shape of the month rarely changes. The dates just haven't gone up yet.
The Restaurants Doing the Heavy Lifting
None of this works without a handful of specific businesses absorbing the foot traffic, and downtown's dining scene has shifted enough this year that it's worth a separate note. Dolce Restaurant & Wine Bar at 13 N. Cass Avenue changed hands under new ownership as of May 1, 2026, a meaningful turnover for a spot that has anchored that stretch of downtown since 2017. A few doors down at 14 N. Cass, Taurasi Stile Italiano keeps drawing regulars for its scratch-made pasta and its Friday night jazz duo, and the restaurant has poured beer and wine at past Vision & Vibe Fest weekends alongside Whiskey Hill Brewery. NEAT Kitchen + Bar remains the de facto house band venue for Cruisin' Nights, which means its patio has effectively hosted a free concert every Thursday night all summer whether you walked in for dinner or not.
If you've been meaning to try one of these three, a festival weekend or a Wicked West Fest Saturday is a low-effort excuse to finally book the table.
The Volunteers Who Make This Run
Here's the detail that puts the whole calendar in perspective. Westmont Special Events Corporation is an all-volunteer nonprofit board, and it's the organization behind Cruisin' Nights, the Taste of Westmont, the Zombie Pub Crawl, the Muddy Waters Blues Museum exhibit, and most of what's listed above. That's an organization that says it hosts more than 75 event days a year, run by people who aren't paid to do it. And this fall, the same group is quietly searching for a new office and storage space, needing to relocate by early 2027. It's a strange bit of irony worth sitting with: the volunteers responsible for filling downtown with 2,500 people on a given Thursday night don't currently have a guaranteed home of their own past next year.
That tension is part of what makes this town's calendar feel handmade rather than corporate. The people planning your Saturday are your neighbors, and they're doing it between day jobs.
What This Means for Your Fall
Between now and Halloween, downtown Westmont has three distinct identities lined up back to back: an arts festival this weekend, a restaurant scene worth revisiting, and a month of Halloween programming waiting on its official dates. None of it requires driving to Naperville or downtown Chicago for a Saturday plan. It's all within walking distance of Cass Avenue.
